Drive Smart

Buying a vehicle when you live outside the Lower Mainland

If the nearest real selection is a ferry ride or a few hours up the highway, distance ends up deciding what you drive. It should not have to.

Plenty of BC is a long way from a big selection. On the Sunshine Coast, on the Island, in the Kootenays or up north, looking at four vehicles can mean a full day and a sailing before you have seen anything in person.

That narrows what people consider, and it narrows it for reasons that have nothing to do with the vehicle itself.

How the search works from a distance

You tell us the vehicle and the budget. We work with dealers across the province, so we can look through what they have without you driving to each one, and we bring you the actual details rather than a listing photo.

Financing gets worked out alongside the search rather than after it, so what you are looking at already fits.

Once you have chosen, the paperwork is handled remotely and the vehicle comes to you.

What this is genuinely better at

You are choosing from a much wider pool than whatever is within driving distance this weekend. Distance stops being the filter, so the shortlist gets built around what you asked for.

You also get to think about it at home, in your own time, instead of making a decision at the end of a long day of travelling.

What still needs care

Ask for the vehicle history and read it properly. Ask what the condition report actually says, including anything cosmetic. Ask what happens if it arrives and something is not as described, and get that answer before you commit rather than after.

Those three questions are reasonable and anyone worth dealing with will answer them straight.

The point of it

This is not about avoiding anybody. You still want a real person who picks up the phone. It is about not letting a ferry schedule decide which vehicles you get to consider.

Tell us what you are after and where you are. We will search from there.
